Discovery of the Sacred Moorthis at Gokarna

A pivotal moment in the history of the Samsthan occurred when P.P. Shreemad Ramchandra Teerth Swamiji discovered the sacred moorthis of Sri Ram, Sri Lakshman, and Sri Seetadevi behind the Math at Gokarna. These divine icons were destined to become the primary deities of the lineage. Following this discovery, they began traveling with these moorthis to find a location for a permanent spiritual seat in the Goa region.

The Divine Journey to Partagali

The establishment of the Partagali Math in A.D. 1656 was guided by a two-stage divine revelation. Initially, while traveling with the sacred moorthis, the icons became exceptionally heavy at a particular spot. However, sensing that this first location was not suitable for a permanent spiritual seat, they sought further direction through prayer. In response, they received a divine sign in a dream involving a cow. Following the cow deep into the dense forest of Partagali, they reached a specific secluded spot. Here, the moorthis once again became immovably heavy, and the cow began to spontaneously offer its milk to the earth. Recognizing this as the absolute command of the Lord, P.P. Swamiji founded the Partagali Math at that exact location. A similar miracle later occurred at Rivona, where the cow's milk flowed and the Maruti moorthi became heavy, leading to the foundation of the Rivona branch Math.

Administrative and Spiritual Legacy

Under their visionary leadership, the tradition of the Rathotsava (chariot festival) was initiated at Partagali, receiving support from the local residents and the Soundekar dynasty. Despite establishing the center at Partagali, P.P. Swamiji continued to reside and perform penance primarily at Gokarna and the Rivona branch Math, where they eventually attained Haripada.
