Leadership During Migration and Persecution

Following the Mahanirvana of P.P. Shreemad Narayana Teerth Shreepad Vader Swamiji in Chaitra of Shri Saka 1439, P.P. Shreemad Vasudeva Teerth Shreepad Vader Swamiji ascended the Gurupeetha. This era coincided with the arrival of the Portuguese in Goa in 1510 AD, which brought forcible conversions and atrocities. Consequently, the Gauda Saraswat community began migrating to Karnataka, Kerala, and Maharashtra. One such group landed near Kundapur and faced extreme hostility and starvation. Unable to communicate in Kannada and forced to live at the forest's edge, the elders sent a 'Vinanti patra' to P.P. Swamiji in Bhatkal, pleading for help.

Benevolence at Basrur

Moved by their community's suffering, P.P. Shreemad Vasudeva Teerth Shreepad Vader Swamiji traveled to Basrur. They successfully convinced the local leaders to accept the GSB families and oversaw the construction of a Dharmashala for their shelter. P.P. Swamiji advised the families to live in harmony with the locals and predicted a bright future for the community in these new lands. Among these migrants, they noticed a 'Tejaswee Vatu' in a priest's family and, recognizing his potential, initiated him into Sanyasa as P.P. Shreemad Jeevottama Teerth Shreepad Vader Swamiji.

Mahanirvana and Legacy

Having ensured the safety of the community and the future of the Math, P.P. Shreemad Vasudeva Teerth Shreepad Vader Swamiji attained Haripada in Pandharpur on Vaishakha Shukla Tritiya, Shri Saka 1440, while on a Teerthayatra. Their legacy lives on through the teachings of Their successor, who spread the wisdom of P.P. Shreemad Ananda Teerth Bhagavatpada across Bharath.

The Guruparamparamrita commemorates their final resting place with the following verse:
