Jeevottam Magazine

Over the Years

For over six decades, Jivottama has served as a sacred bridge of knowledge, bringing the nectar of Tattva, Bhakti, Vairagya, and the Guru Parampara into countless homes. More than just a magazine, it is a noble tradition dedicated to propagating the Tattvavada established by Shreemad Anandatirtha Bhagavatpadacharya (Sri Madhvacharya).

Published bi-monthly by the Partagali Jeevottam Math, Jivottama brings together deep philosophical treatises, sacred messages from the revered Pontiffs, festival reports, community news, and devotional literature. It stands as a vibrant window into the Math's intellectual and spiritual life, connecting devotees across the globe to their cultural and religious roots.

The Spiritual Essence of "Jivottama"

The name Jivottama holds profound theological weight in the Madhva tradition, carrying a triple significance:

  • Vayu Jivottama: It honors Lord Vayu, the greatest among jivas (souls), who incarnated as Sri Hanuman, Sri Bhimasena, and Shreemad Acharya to protect Dharma and restore Vedic truth.
  • Siddhanta: It represents the ultimate, unshakeable truth (Siddhanta) derived harmoniously from the sacred scriptures.
  • Guru Parampara: It commemorates Shreemad Jivottama Teerth Shripadangalavaru, the third illustrious pontiff of the Sri Ramavitthala tradition.

A Sacred Beginning & Divine Alignment

The magazine was launched on 17 September 1958 (Bhadrapada Shukla Panchami) under the divine guidance of Paramapoojya Shreemad Dwarakanath Teerth Shreepad Vader Swamiji, coinciding with the Punyatithi of Parampoojya Shreemad Jeevottam Teerth Shreepad Vader Swamiji.

In its foundational years, the issues were deliberately timed to release on specific nakshatras to invoke the Brahma–Vayu–Hari lineage:

  • Swati Nakshatra (Associated with Vayu)
  • Shravana Nakshatra (Associated with Vishnu)
  • Rohini Nakshatra (Associated with Brahma)

Over Six Decades of Devoted Service

What began as a modest publication has evolved into an enduring institution of learning within the Madhva community. Today, under the visionary guidance of Paramapoojya Shreemad Vidyadheesh Teerth Shreepad Vader Swamiji, Jeevottam continues its mission with renewed vigor and contemporary relevance.

Available in both Kannada and English, it ensures that the timeless principles of Hari Sarvottamata and Vayu Jivottamata reach readers not only in Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra, but across India and the world.
